Ed Crewson
Ed Crewson is a life-long resident of Dufferin-Caledon – graduating from Centre Dufferin District High School, where as Head Boy he received the Outstanding Graduating Student Award before going on to complete his Business degree with Honours from Brock University.
Ed and his wife Wendy have raised their three children in Shelburne, and are naturally proud of each of them and their achievements. Ed feels lucky to have the opportunity to work with one of his daughters in what has become a successful local family business, Crewson Insurance, employing 14 people, and serving the community through their offices in Shelburne and Wasaga Beach.
Ed first heeded the call to public service as a municipal councillor for Shelburne in 1988. He was elected as Reeve of Shelburne in 1991 for two terms and then held the position of Mayor from 1997 until retiring from Municipal politics in 2014. His time in office has seen Shelburne rise to among the top three fastest growing municipalities – yet taxes are lower than 4 years ago!
Ed has served over the years as Warden of Dufferin County, Chair of the Government Services Committee, Chair of Social Services, Chair of the Community Development Committee and served on the Police Services Board for more than two decades.
Ed's tenure has seen well managed growth with his balanced approach that has meant tax restraint while prudently expanding services to meet changing needs.
"Over 26 years of service as a municipal leader has proven to me that by listening to people, caring about their needs, respecting their concerns and their tax dollars while working hard and working well with others, you can improve the lives of people. Furthermore, I cannot stand silently and watch the Great Canadian Social Safety Net that supported my mother and I after my father’s death, be starved into destruction by the Harper Government while it wastes $100 million per year on partisan advertising."
"I want to be Dufferin-Caledon's voice in Ottawa, not just another Ottawa mouthpiece justifying the destruction of environmental protections and the ever worsening treatment of our veterans!"
"This 'Harper Government' does not listen, does not care, does not represent and certainly does not serve us..."
